Carol Nolan meets with IDA Regional Managers to discuss Cardinal Health

26-03-2025

Independent TD for Offaly Carol Nolan has met with the IDA’s Regional Manager for the Midlands, Carole Green and the IDA’s head of Regional Enterprise Development, Ray O’Connor to discuss their ongoing efforts to secure a positive future for the workers of Cardinal Health in Tullamore. The plant is currently in the process of ceasing operations on a phased basis from April 2025 to June 2026.

Deputy Nolan said that she was committed to ensuring that all options are being explored and pursued that will enable the site to be retained and utilised as future source of employment:

“When the announcement came in back in August of last year the entire town of Tullamore was shocked. Unfortunately, it is often the way with these things that they then drop off the political industrial radar. I was adamant that I would not allow that to happen to Cardinal Health and its workers,” said Deputy Nolan.

“I was impressed with the level of work that the IDA is engaged in with respect to the site and I know following our meeting that there is a real determination at senior IDA level to do everything possible to bring employment back to town.”

“I will continue my engagement with IDA and indeed the Department of Enterprise to ensure that we can achieve the very best outcome from what was very grim decision to close the plant by 2026. I will not forget the workers or their families,” concluded Deputy Nolan.
